Trainee Resources

Below is a list of resources for trainees in order to provide them with additional information above and beyond their training experience at the CDL.

ADD
ADD is the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. They are an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that ensures individuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of and have access to culturally competent services, supports, and other assistance and opportunities that promotes independence, productivity, and integration and inclusion into the community.

AUCD
AUCD is the Association of University Centers on Disabilities. This is a network of interdisciplinary University Centers that are advancing policy and practice for individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families, and communities. Check out the trainee link that is specifically dedicated to information among AUCD trainees. LEND LINKS is a newsletter specifically for LEND trainees.

CCD
CCD is the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities. It is a coalition of approximately 100 national disability organizations working together to advocate for national public policy that ensures the self determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society.

Early Detection for Autism
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have a new set of materials and website for families. The website allows parents to check off the developmental steps by their child's age and to be alert for signs of autism early.

Family Village
Family Village is a global community that integrates information, resources, and communication opportunities on the Internet for persons with cognitive and other disabilities, for their families, and for those that provide them services and support.

HIPAA Presentation
This module has to be completed by all trainees before any activities begin at the CDL.

A newsletter published by AUCD specifically for LEND trainees.

MCHB
MCHB is the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. It is a Federal agency under the Health Resources and Services Agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. MCHB is dedicated to providing funding to agencies who promote a co in which the right to grow to one's full potential is universally assured through attention to the comprehensive physical, psychological and social needs of the maternal and child health population. We strive for a society where children are wanted and born with optimal health, receive quality care and are nurtured lovingly and sensitively as they mature into healthy, productive adults. MCHB seeks a nation where there is equal access for all to quality health care in a supportive, culturally competent, family and community setting.

NDCCD
The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities is part of a Federal coalition to improve results for children with disabilities. They are funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at the U.S. Department of Education. Their mission is to connect you with the resources you need in your efforts on behalf of infants, toddlers, children, and youth who have disabilities.

Odum Institute
The Howard W. Odum Institute for Research in Social Science is a center that offers many diverse services to support the research and training of social science faculty and graduate students.

The Data Resource Center (DRC) for Child and Adolescent Health

The Family Support Network of North Carolina
This agency promotes and provides support to families with children who have special needs through its family support services, education and outreach activities, research and evaluation, and community projects.
