Occupational Therapist

Sue is enjoying her time at the Center for Development and Learning with several projects in the works .She is currently a member of the Early Childhood LINK project.  Sue is also teaming with other disciplines on the Hunter’s Natural History research project here at CDL.  To "round out" her weeks, she practices as an occupational therapist with the Chatham County schools, working with students from preschool to high school in a variety of settings.

Sue has an undergraduate degree from Heidelberg College in Ohio, and she received her Masters in Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1979 with her thesis work in the area of Motor Learning.  Her Master's degree in Science (Occupational Therapy) from UNC-CH makes her an adopted, if not native, Tarheel!

Sue has had numerous experiences with children, both as a teacher and as a pediatric occupational therapist.  Practice locations have included schools in Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, and Pennsylvania.  She has also worked in Wurzburg, Germany with the Exceptional Family Member program as a school occupational therapist.  Other overseas work opportunities have included a stint as a member of the preschool consultant team to the Soviet of St. Petersburg, Russia, and volunteer rehabilitation work in Salema, Guatemala as part of the VOSH (Voluntary Optometric Services to Humanity) humanitarian efforts.

Sue put her teaching skills into practice, working for the 1997-1998 academic year as a visiting clinical professor in the Division of Occupational Science at UNC-CH.  Her foray into the writing world resulted in co-authorship of Pediatric Therapy: A Systems Approach, published (finally!) in 1999.

In her other occupational roles, Sue is the proud mother of a teenage daughter, and a lover of good books, new recipes, and running routes with few hills.
