The Make a Joyful Noise information kit contains basic information about hearing loss and options for families in communication, education, and technology, with an emphasis on oral education. The kit contains a short video, a handbook, and a collection of articles and other publications on the successes of oral education and modern technology. The video is a short version of Dreams Spoken Here (also available from Oral Deaf Education), showcasing several children of different ages who have successfully learned to communicate orally despite their profound hearing losses. The handbook is a great resource, outlining causes of hearing loss, information on amplification options and technology, a list of resources for parents, and communication options. Also included are a suggested reading list and an audiogram of familiar sounds, to help aid parents and child care providers in understanding what sounds a child may be missing. While this kit was designed specifically for parents, it would also benefit early interventionists, child care providers, and preschool teachers. What’s more, these kits are available for free, in English or Spanish!
