This book is a great resource for teachers, parents, and practitioners working with young children who have behavior problems that are out of control. Dr. Russell Barkley is one of the leading experts in the field regarding oppositional, aggressive, overactive, and impulsive behaviors in children. All of his books offer effective, practical, and creative strategies for dealing with problem behaviors, and this book is no exception. Your Defiant Child explains what causes defiance, when it is a clinical problem, and how it can be resolved. It provides a concise yet clear eight step program to promote positive behavior changes. I have found that the strategies in this book are most effective if the parents and teachers of a child simultaneously read the book and implement the program at home and school. There are also helpful charts, questionnaires, and checklists to use as well as case examples to illustrate the program. This resource is very helpful for dealing with oppositional and defiant behavior.
